Mrs C.R. Lowell,
I received your epistle, of May, 18th saying that you were very glad to receive my note, but would like to hear more particularly, the condition of the school and the people, and myself. I am very glad to have the opertunity to explain to you the condition of things in this vicinity.
In the first place Mr. C.R.L, this place being so far from the Rail Roads and all public conveniences that it seem like people and the enterist of the people have been forgotten. The is very little difference between the state of thing here and that of Zabulon and Nephthalim in a figurative manner of speaking. It is true the people were emancipated, but while they were emancipated, they were left without any thing at all, without family without education and allmoust without apparel. The people have not had, even a school in this vicinity before this one;
