If Abingdon wants a teacher this year, they must ask for one and they must promise not to assume entire control of her (as they did last winter,) and make her life a burden to her! In Alexandria we shall have our three Normal School Teachers, but cannot afford others, unless the people, or city, will pay their board, which I suppose is scarcely to be hoped for.  X 

Why, by the way, cannot the city of Richmond engage your teachers and so let them go independently of any society, if the Peabody fund can pay them? They ought to belong to the city in name, if [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] it does anything toward their support [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] it will feel so much more pride & interest in them than if they hold Commissions from different Northern

X Would there be any use in our writing to the City Council, Mayor, or somebody else, to make any proposition of the kind?
