Clarksville Nov 1869

Mr. R M Manly

Sir your letter is received. I wrote to you as Superintendant of Schools not as a private individual. Your insinuations and epithets are offensive and unkind. - My conduct and Financial transactions are always open for investigation. How easy to make assertions how difficult to prove them. You have no right to stigmatize a person as a mischief maker without proff. it makes you appear small in the eyes of sensable men. I do not remember asking you (in my last letter) for advice but you generously give it with your opinion of me in a manner which shows you regard not the feelings of others in regard to our closing or rather cease paying for the School room. You have my consent for I merely remain here
