I would have written in answer to your letter of the 14th sooner, but you spoke of being absent from the city for 10 days and I thought it best to wait until your return. I feel grateful indeed for your thoughtful kindness. When will you be able to make your contemplated trip through the valley? I hope you will at least not undertake it until the mud dries up. Though I am anxious to see you, hoping that you will find it convenient when you do come to make an appropriation towards helping me pay the debts on my "Cottage Institute" I feel badly burdened at times but must regard my costs
