Dear Mr Manly,
I asked Mrs Lowell to write the enclosed note, intending also to write you myself about our plans for the Richmond Normal School: and our expectation that the city would soon take entire charge of the other schools- but I hardly have the heart to say anything about it now to you in the midst of the horror and distress which have- come upon the city. How terrible it must be.
