|Reply to Ques No 4 Names of IX [[?]] of local friends of the enterprise| Reply to Ques No X Concerning State of pub sentiment regarding schools, &c| General Remarks.|
|At this time I am unable to name any white persons in this county. who are greatly friendly to the colored school question. I can find few who are friends [[implicidly?]] but none [[?]]. I can [[?]] as being open and active friends of the [[cause?]].| I do not think that public sentiment is in favor of this enterprise at this time. I have heard no expressions indicating bitter opposition to the movement but I believe that the [[?]] would vote against the whole thing if the question was submitted to their votes &c| There is considerable interest being manifested in the subject by the Freedmen. There are at this time three private schools in operation in the County whose scholars in the aggregate number about One Hundred. They are conducted in a small scale because of the limited facilities for accummulating pupils. I think perhaps as many as six colored teachers could be found in the county who are capable of instructing in the lower branches of English study.|
