to open a school at this place under the direction of the Free Baptist.

There is no building that can be had for a Freedman School at Luray I have priced a building lot that can be had for (50) fifty dollars or rented at (10) ten per month & a suitable building will cost between three & four hundred although five (500) hundred would buy the land build the house & dig a well

I cannot depend upon the local friends for any help whatever a teacher from abroad would be required also books

Egypt the Freedmen have built a very good school house & would furnish wood and board the teacher if it could be done by boarding around so would recommend a Col'd teacher here with books furnished & the teachers salary paid would be all that is required. A white teacher could get board at a white family but the local friends cannot pay for it
