have advised her to call upon Mr. Manly and see if he can assist her in reopening the school. There are a large number of children at Manakin who ought to attend school, and the people, I believe, have constant employment at good wages.

The other schools are progressing much as usual, except that in some of them, a portion of the pupils have been temporarily withdrawn for the purpose of gathering corn fodder and sumac leaves. This business will soon be over, and the scholars will probably then resume their studies.
