DRESSING THEM UP
On March 22 legendary costume designer Theoni V. Aldredge (right) will be honored by her peers with the Theater Development Fund Irene Sharaff Achievement Award for her work on over 100 Broadway productions. A three-time Tony Award winner, Ms. Aldredge's designs have been seen in such shows as Ballroom, Merlin, Onward Victoria, The Grand Tour and the original 42nd Street. Several of her costume sketches are pictured below. Can you name the show for which each costume was designed? Clues are provided.

The musical based on a comic strip about a lovable red-headed orphan and featured Tony-winning costumes by Ms. Aldredge. Her design for orphan matron Miss Hannigan is pictured at left.

One of the highlights of this Henry Krieger-Tom Eyen music  about the rise of an all-girl singing group was Ms. Aldredge's glorious costumes. The musical also featured a powerhouse turn by Jennifer Holliday.

Ms. Aldredge's costumes were worn by Elizabeth Taylor in the revival of this Noel Coward play about two divorcees honeymooning in the same hotel.

Ms. Aldredge designed costumes for the award-winning revival of this Jule Styne-Stephen Sondheim-Arthur Laurents musical, which starred Tyne Daly as an overbearing, stagestruck mother of a child actress turned stripper.

George Hearn brought down the house with his powerful rendition of "I Am What I Am" in this musical, which featured a score by Jerry Herman and Tony-winning costumes by Ms. Aldredge.
