Gen'l Perry, Jones Co. Farmer. Knew the place before C. Perry bought it. Has seen guano used on his own land [[strikethrough]] in N.C. [[/strikethrough]] Land [[strikethrough]] with [[/strikethrough]] stiff clay is benefited by it. Light sandy land is injured. Marl kills the same land. The land can be reclaimed by lying out a year or two - or by swamp mud. Went over the place yesterdy. It is very poor - No sign of army worm or rust. Much of the cotton did not produce a boll. No benefit would result another year from the fertilizers which have been applied. They have all washed off.
Mike Green (colored) used to belong to C Perry & worked the farm for him. Tended in Corn 1/2 each year, letting it lie idle alternate years. Used Horse stable manure composted with swamp mud &c. Worked the place three years after Perry left. Worked nearly 1/2 the plantation. Advised Tallcott to get horse manure from the 12th Cav Camps & compost as he couldn't get cotton. Dont know whether he did it or not. Saw barrels of manure hauled up-
