Castix, control of the property was turned over by the district Commander to the Treasury Dept. from which it passed to the Freedmens Bureau. Nearly all of it was put in charge of Mr Pipkin as Agent and from that portion no benefit has ever accrued to the Bureau, as all the rents were applied according to the memoranda & orders referred to.

I would call your attention to the fact that Hannah Castix to whom the 50:00/00 per month has been paid is a former slave of Raymond Castix with whom he lived as his wife & by whom he had two children who survive him. The house described in the margin of the application on New Street between George & Metcalf is her residence bought largely with her money and intended by her master to be hers forever. As a slave she could not have a title to it & under the laws of the State, the Administrator can not recognize her claim; and unless the Bureau shall protect her in her right, great injustice will be committed.
