Dear Sir:
Some two weeks: since I wrote you making application for the appointment of Asst Supt of Freedmen for the counties of Pitt & Edgecomb Counties. I see now by the order, friend to Lt. John Swartz that he will have to leave here, and no one will be here to transact Business. If the government is so disposed I should like to be appointed for My own County, Marlin & Britee and when Beaufort or Edgecomb, added I have done nearly all the business any way connected with the Bureau in this county, and fancy to myself that I can, as I have at all times done, represented the policy & vices of the government. If you have the appointment within your power, I should be pleased to receive it from your hands or such influences from you I will recommend my appointment. Those who know me desire my appointment anything done for me in this matter would
