LEASE OF LANDS, TENEMENTS, &c.

Memorandum of and Agreement made this fourth day of January 1866, between Capt. F. A. Seely A.Q.M. Financial Agent of the Bureau of Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, as provided for by the Acts of Congress respectively approved March 12, 1863, and July 2, 1864 and March 3, 1865, for taking charge of, and leasing abandoned and confiscable lands, houses, and tenements in the State of N.C. and Jerry Blunt (col'd) of New Berne in the County of Craven and State of North Carolina

Witnesseth, that in pursuance of said Acts, and of the instructions of the Commissioner of the Bureau, the said Agent, for and in behalf of the United States, agrees, upon the terms hereinafter contained, to lease to the said Jerry Blunt (col'd) from the first day of January, 1866, to the first day of January, 1867, the following described lands and premises, to wit:
All of the McManus Plantation, comprising four acres of land cleared land and the house therein, situate one half mile out of New Berne the Neuse and Trent roads. 

And the said Jerry Blunt (col'd) hereby agrees that one equal fourth part of the productions realized by the cultivation and working of the plantation aforesaid shall be promptly gathered, prepared, and delivered to the authorized Agent of the United States at New Berne in said state on or before the first day of January, 1867, in proper packages and condition for transportation. 

And the said Jerry Blunt(col'd)further agrees, in relation to the employment and payment of freedmen worked upon the said plantation, that he will employ and pay them, and provide for their families, in compliance with the Regulations of this Bureau, concerning the employment and general welfare of freedmen, which Regulations are made a part of this agreement, so far as they relate to the employers and employed, and further that he will do all things required of him by the Regulations of the Commissioner of this Bureau concerning abandoned and confiscable property.
