Jacob Lovejoy was sprinkling manure near the house of Mrs. Miller on the day of the murder. I saw Miss Miller coming from the kitchen followed by three men who told her that they were sent by the officers from Kinston to get all the guns from the damned robbers. She said she would come up and see what they wanted. I went to the house and saw a great big negro at the door armed who told me to leave them or I would get in trouble. I heard a shot in the house and soon after the men came out and passed round the garden to the rear of the house and I saw them no more.
