For the News Letter - March 15, 1951
Yusuo Kuniyoshi

As this news letter goes to press, Equity rounds out its fourth year. In 1947 when Equity was first organized, a temporary governing body was selected and I was chosen as provisional President. In 1948, when the constitution was adopted and we held our first general election, I was officially elected as President and have served until the present time.

Within a matter of weeks I will have completed my full term as President and I expectantly await the new elections. At the same time, there are a number of artists, who have served almost as long as I have, whose terms also are ending. [[strikethrough]] up [[/strikethrough]] I especially want to thank them for their effective cooperation in bringing Equity to its present prominence.

To be candid, it was an exhausting but stimulating experience working together with you. From a handful of artists we grew to 1800 members. During my administration we encountered numerous stumbling blocks, and I dare say they will not necessarily lessen, since there is so much to be done, but I do feel that we can manage our affairs with greater confidence because we have gained respect and prestige. Every step we have taken has been carefully deliberated and if we have built slowly it is because we wanted something solid and lasting.
