November 3, 1944

Mr. Yasuo Kuniyoshi
30 East 14th Street
New York, New York

Dear Mr. Kuniyoshi,

We wish to ask you to speak at our annual December 7th meeting, planned this year for the evening of Wednesday, December 6th.

For your information, every year since 1941, the Japanese American Committee for Democracy has sponsored a Pearl Harbor meeting, not to commemorate the attack, but to use the data as an occasion for a re-dedication to the end that democracy and freedom shall prevail throughout the world.

As anti-fascist Americans, we join with other Americans in fighting for defeat of fascism both abroad and at home. As anti-fascist Americans of Japanese ancestry, we are particularly interested in victory over militarist Japan as a basis for enabling the people of that country to fight for their place in the family of nations.

With indications that the war in Europe will come to a victorious end in the not too distant future, events in the Far East assume greater significance and importance. Hence, we feel that this year, more than ever before, a new meaning can be attached to a December 7th meeting, and we are anxious to sponsor a rally of a more mass character than those held in previous years.

Your speaking at such a meeting will contribute immeasurably to its success. With your knowledge and understanding of Far Eastern affairs, you will be able to speak with authority on the subject. Whatever you have to say on post-war Japan, on the possibilities of a democratic Japan, and the future outlook of the Japanese Americans based on your experiences will be of great interest and information to us.

For your information William Gailmor, the radio commentator has already accepted the invitation to speak. Pearl Buck will also drop in for a few minutes.
