Dear Miss Connor:

As per your request, I am giving you this letter, which outlines in some detail the Chinese promotion which I discussed with you on May 12th. The promotion is to be sponsored by the Goldman Company of Baltimore and New York City. This outfit is one of the leaders in the women's fashion field and bears the highest reputation. It is Mr. Goldman's intention, as you may have gathered from your meeting with him on Tuesday, to create a series of styles for the fall which will serve as the basis of a national publicity campaign designed to attract attention to and emphasize the efforts that are being made in this country to lend assistance to China.

It is our thought that this can best be done by creating a series of designs that are fundamentally Chinese in nature and that will be understood as such by the majority of American women. We would like to base the entire promotion on three basic designs.

1. A design inspired by and symbolizing the title of Madame Chiang Kai Shek's book, "China Shall Rise Again".

2. A design inspired by and symbolizing the title of Dr. Lin Yutang's book, "Leaf in the Storm".

3. A design inspired by and symbolizing the title of Pearl Buck's book, "Dragon Seed".

It is our intention to have these original designs created by a famous artist. From this original artwork will be derived the fabric designs upon which the fashion angle of the promotion will be based. The original artwork created by these famous artists will be auctioned off to the public at a fashion-cocktail party which I will refer to a bit further on. The proceeds of this auction will be turned over to United China Relief. It is our suggestion that the original art creations be reproduced in quantity for distribution and sale in key department stores throughout the country. We believe that we will have no trouble in arranging
