Endorsements on request that the school-house at Raleigh be rented for support of a Teacher, at $30. per month
Office Supd. Education, Bu R.F. & A.L.
Nashville, Tenn. Jany. 2nd 1868
Respectfully referred to Bvt. Maj. Genl. W.P. Carlin, Asst. Comr. Tenn. The letter of Mr. Cravath was not inclosed probably through mistake. Its import seems to be that he is unable to send a teacher to Raleigh. I learn from Col. Palmer, that the house is ready for a school and that he is unable to send a teacher to Mr. Young the proposed teacher is from Ohio, and has been teaching at Bartletts Station last year and sustains a good character.
I know nothing of his scholarship. It seems that Mr. Shepherd thinks him competent. The only way in which aid could be rendered would be to rent the house. Col. Palmer is anxious to have the school sustained.
(sigd) D. Burt,
Supt Edu
