by the Colored people in good repair and sufficient to accommodate all the colored children in the place. There is a school in each at the present time. On these buildings the Bureau has expended $185.50/100. It does not seem advisable to render further aid in this place.

Endorsements on communication forwarding vouchers for repairs at Louisville, Tenn.
Referred to Mr. Burt, Jany 2, 1868.

Office Supt. Education,
Nashville, Jany. 2nd 1868.

Respectfully returned to Bvt. Maj Genl. W. P. Carlin, Asst Commr. As stated in Capt. Walker's letters, these repairs have never been recommended by the Supt of Ed. nor ordered by the Asst. Commr. Mr. Shade it seems has led the trustees to have the work done in the hope that the Bureau would pay the Bill. The teacher at this point is a competent white lady commissioned and supported by the U. Pres. Mission. (Mr. McKee's church). The report for December is 81 pupils. I have no doubt but that the work was necessary, and the trustees are not responsible for the informal manner in which it has been done.
