Oct 27th 1866  Gives the conversation of one Ben Roney a Country Tavern Keeper of Sumner Co Tenn 29 miles from Nashville on the L and N Pike - Roney stated that he had whipped their niggers in the last few weeks harder than he ever did before in his life. In one instance he beat a colored woman with his fists until he exausted himself, and then cowhided her giving her not less than 250 lashes, The colored people are afraid to report the case. |
