States that some time in August 1865, he made a claim against the Government for labor performed in construction of U.S. Forts at Donelson and Clarksville, Tenn., in favor of Benj. Carlyle and others, col'd men who had been impressed and hired to do the work, - that he had handed the papers to Col. H.G. Davis of 101st U.S.C. Infy. who was then the agent of the Freedmen's Bureau, with the request to forward them thro. the proper channel to Hd. Qrs. - that he recd. a letter from Capt. Lawrence at Nash. Tenn. in reference to the case, since which he has heard nothing further in the matter. Now requests that the papers be hunted up and referred to the proper Department that the result may be known and obtained. |
