Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 26/1865 Brig. Genl. Clinton B. Fisk Asst. Comr. Bureau R. F. and A. L. Nashville (Tenn.) General, According to your directions, I have received an appointment of Br. Brig. Genl. [[Salm?]] as an Asst. Comr. Bureau R.F and A.L, subject to the approval of the proper authority, and consequent by report to you. The possibility of a muster-out of my regiment, the 68th N.Y., at an early date, may appear as an objection, but I would state at the same time, that it is my earnest desire, if possible, to refrain from this position, after the muster out of my regiment, and to lend all my abilities and energies to a cause, in which I feel so deep an interest. I have written for recommendations to Maj.Genl. O.O. Howard and Castlebury, with both of who I am personally and intimate acquainted, and trust that your actions are
