I would respectfully make the following statement, and pray you to see me [[wrighted?]] in the matter about to be submitted to your judgement. First allow me to preface my statement by saying, I am a Blackman, born a slave, and have just seen the time that I dare to appeal for justice, which I am Entitled to, although a Soldier, and justice I am satisfied will be give me, and I am satisfied to abide by the Law and Justice at all times.

Sir, on the 1st day of Last August, I was transfered from Co A. 9th U.S.C.A.(H) to the 15th U.S.C.I. and assigned to Co K of this Regt. On the day, and at the time I was transfered, there was five Sergeants in this company, of which rank, I was. The officer in command of the company told me, that he had no vacancy for me, as a Sergt, but
