Dear Sir
The lands of Saml Powel of Hawkins County Tennessee were seized by the Agent of the Treasury Department on the 22 day of April 1865 and leased out until the 25 day of Dec 1865  Said lands are described as being in Hawkins County Ten'see In the 11th Civil District adjoining the lands of A Gilinwaters [[Gillenwater]] John Netherland and George R Powel and supposed to contain 100 acres and the same was turned over to the Freedmans Bureau July 13 1865.

The above lands have not been rerented. Hard lands were seized upon the ground that Powel had abandoned  the same Powel did not live upon the land He never did He at the time of the seizure was living in Hawkins County and was at home where he had been for some time before Powel had been at home in Hawkins County some he left the army
