Bureau of Refugees Freedmen & Abd Lands Louisville Ky December 21 1865 Major John H. Cochrane Asst. Adj. General Major, I beg to enclose two paragraphs, cut from to days papers, showing the action of the police authorities here regarding the ruffians who murdered a discharged colored soldier here on last Sabbath I am Yours very respectfy E.D. Kennedy Capt & acting Supt. Charles [[illegible]] J.A. Knapp [[illegible]] freedman, a [[illegible]] and [[illegible]] to answer. HELD TO ANSWER - In the Police Court yesterday morning, Charles Klink, Augustus Klink, and K. A. Knapp were examines upon the charge of killing George Buchanan, a negro, on Sunday evening last, at the corner of Hancock street and Broadway. Young Knapp was discharged from custody, and the brothers Klink were required to give bail in the sum of three hundred dollars each for their appearance before the Circuit Court at its next session, to answer an indictment for felony.
