As [[strikethrough]]I [[/strikethrough]] you have never formed [[strikethrough]] your [[/strikethrough]] my acquaintance, I will state that I reside in Winchester, Van Buren Country, Iowa, 35 years old. A member of the Iowa conference of the M.E. Church. Was Appointed Chaplain of the 1st Iowa Cavalry in Aug. 1861. On account of Chronic Diarrhea resigned my commission in that Regiment Feb 1863. Was appointed to the Keosauqua Station at the session of our conference in Sept 1863. Represented Van Buren County in the legislature during its last sessions. Was commissioned Chaplain in the 3rd Iowa Cav. in Oct 1864. And since that time have been with my Regiment. You will confer on me a favor, by informing me by letter the probabilities of success in my request. I will also be pleased to obtain any information you may see fit to communicate relative to the policy and plans of the Freedman's Bureau. Respectfully your Obt Servt, Jas.
