f.t.98. 99
14th February 1867
Respectfully returned with report. have been all over this city trying to hire offices for the use of this Bureau and can find no place either suitable or otherwise that could be hired at this time. I have had several consultations with J.J. Connolly and Mr. Smith(Committee of the Library Ass. who claim the rooms and they finally decided, that, as it was evident that I could not now procure another office in time. They would be satisfied to have the rooms continued in the use and occupation of this Bureau until such time as I could find a suitable office provided a rent was paid therefore and stated they considered thirty dollars per month a reasonable rent. Therefore it is purposed to give up these rooms. I would recommend. I would recommend that thirty dollars per month be paid as rent of the same in the Wilmington Library Association. As long as the Bureau continues to occupy them, this being a very low rent compared with other in or near the city. A single room in the negro -often renting for $10-$15 per month. I would also must respectfully recommend that if these rooms are given up to the f-sties claiming them, that a clause be inserted in the order that it only take effect for as such a time as I may be able to find other accommodations in the meantime paying rent. As otherwise I would be liable to be turned out of my office at anytime.
