July 31st 1867 States that a complaint has been made by Nancy McDaniel (Freedwoman) that her son Isaac Solomon has been kept by a Mr. Daniel McIntyre without any authority - that the boy is about 12 years of age, is badly treated, and she wishes authority to go after him |

Aug 3d 1867 States, - That a man named Scriver, came to Lumberton And got work by cutting wood for a Mr. Petteway = That he hired Freedmen to work for him, and agreed to pay them $20.00 pr. month & Rations

That when they came for their pay for their labor, Mr. Scriver was not to be found. The Freedmen have applied to Wm Birney for redress. |

| Aug 13th| Birnie William Agent B.R.F. and A.L. E B Vol 1. Pg 8. Recd August 13th 1867 | Bureau R.F. and A. Lands Lumberton N.C. Aug 12th States that James McCullum (Cold) states that about nine years ago was married to Emily Leggett, both of whom were slaves and who were married without licenses, the person Carson McCullum who united them being neither a preacher nor magistrate, that after living as man and wife for 3 years, Emily was taken away by her owners, and moved to another county. Four years after this, he took up with another woman, Milly Mclair, and when Rev James Sinclair was agt of the Bureau they were lawfully joined together, and have been living as such man and wife to within a few weeks. That Emily Leggett has within a few weeks returned to James McCallum and claims him as her husband. wishes to know which is the legal wife of McCullum |
