I kept a record of all the people born on my plantation. He worked for me from about the 1st of May 1860 until about the 1st of Nov 1865. he left before the crop was all gathered. His mother lived on my plantation, during the year 1865. She was an invalid from July until December and my family attended to her meals and the bill of the Physician. I paid from my own pocket. I made an agreement with the mother for the service of Dick as he was under age. The agreement was made before she was taken sick. She had three children too small to work that I maintained. The family left the plantation at Christmas. When they left I gave the mother seventeen bushels of corn besides potatoes and meat.
