believe have been paid and from the quantity of claims that are coming in & the denial of many who are indebted to the estate (because he left no notes nor took accounts that I can cue on) the estate is insolvent and I must take legal advice to know whether each ones claim has to be scaled in proportion or whether by the laws of N.C. there are preferred creditors. I was appointed by this colored man Tinsley Ashe as his Executor and shall do the best I can with his estate & in the payment of claims I shall pay those which I believe are just first. In regard to the claims of these boys, one of them has a claim for $42 he admits he rec'd $8 worth of provisions &c from Tinsley & $35 cash which presents the appearance to me that
