NARA 550 Bu. R.F & A.L. Hd. Qrs. Supt. So. Dist. N.C. Wilmington N,C, Jan. 18. 1867 Rutherford Allan Lt Col. V.R.C. Supt. So. Dist. N.C. Presents complaint of Clayborn Robinson (Freed) against Dr. Tate Murphy of Sampson Co. who alleges that the said Dr. Murphy retained his daughter Mary Eliza aged 10 years against his will & that in attempting to obtain her he was beaten by Wm Murphy & Edward Carr & was then told by Wm Murphy that if he attempted the like again Dr. Murphy said he would shoot him. Orders report & return of papers. Bu. R.F. & A.L. Magnolia Duplin Co. N.C. Feb. 15 0 1867 Respectfully returned & attention invited to letter enclosed from Dr. C.T. Murphy who is the person implicated in the within complaint. One of the other parties named is at college ad the other in Baltimore. The freedman has a very bad reputation throughout this locality H.H. Foster Bvt. Maj. U.S.V. Asst. Supt.
