any thing more. that is the only cause he has assigned for leaving. Also a woman named Rose McLean left night before last she has been here all the year and was under con't for the year. Also a boy named Green Gray is under contract for the year he left without any cause some time ago, he is now only a few miles from here but does not return. I sent my son to Lumberton yesterday to see Mr Burnie and let him examine the contracts and approve them and wanted him to give us authority to take these persons, he approved all the contracts except those with the hands who has left. I cannot understand why he refused in these cases for I assure you these contracts were voluntarily made on the part of the Freedmen and they had left entirely without cause. If I cannot get these hands back to comply with their contracts I must loose heavily I bought a large quantity of guano have 1200 acres in cotton and about 240 in corn at this place. the rainy weather causes the grass to grow and to have so many laborers to leave will cause me to loose considerable of the crop and I respectfully ask your aid to get these people back. You gave me authority last year which was never abused but benefitted all parties. Please give me authority to get aid to take them either in Robeson or Richmond Counties and send it to me at that [[?]] by first mail

Very Respectfully
