Cleveland, O. April 3rd 1868

Allan Rutherford Esq
Cap't. 44th U.S. Infantry &c.
Wilmington N.C

Dear Sir

Your favor of the 28th ult directed to me at Philad'a was forwarded home from that place and received today. In reply would state:
That when I left the Green Swamp it was with the full intention of returning and continuing any business of shingle manufacturing; but while in Philadelphia, I altered my arrangements and concluded not to return. I therefore made arrangements with Sam G Bolton & Co of that city to pay any hands at the Swamp what was due them. If Charles Anderson will see Mr Saml Bolton at the Swamp when he arrives there (which will probably be in two or three weeks from this date) he will experience no difficulty in obtaining what is coming to him.
