Clarksville Ten Sept 11th, 1865

Gen Fisk

Dear Sir
I arrived last evening, and have this day learned that there is an effort being made to supersede Col. Davis, the Representative of the Freedmens Bureau at this place.

My deliberate opinion is a better Man for the posision at this Post would be hard to find, He is Mild, Prudent Persevering, attentive, just, and firm, with all I believe as good a man, as could be had, I hope that you will not suspend him. All this I say without Seeing or Consulting, Col Davis.

Nothing more now
I am yours &c, B R Peart
