1941-(May 9 to 21) exhibition, talk and demonstration, Santa Barbara City Library, Art Gallery - 16 silk paintings.
1941-(June 14 to 20) lecture and demonstration given three times on Japanese art and paintings of nature of Yosemite, at outdoor Alumni Association Convention, Wawona Lodge, Yosemite.
1941-(July 17 to Oct. 5) exhibited at Art Institute of Chicago in the Twentieth International Exhibition of Water Color, a painting entitle "Spring Rain in U.C. Campus."
1941-(Oct. 7 to 13) decorated two booths 20 x 18 at San Jose County Fair for Agricultural production of Japanese Association of Santa ClaraCounty.
1942-(Jan.) Art in National Defense incorporated to supply an exhibition to be shown in Army training camps throughout the country. "U. of C. Campus from Charter Hill." 
X1942-(March 17) 10 silk paintings of scenes of University of California Campus presented to the Alumni Association of U.C. The paintings were published as covers of the 1939-40 California Monthly. Later issued in folio form as seasons of California.
1942-(April) Gave talk and demonstration of paintings on Natural Resources of California at Haviland Hall for 4H All Star Conference.
X1942-(April) Gave exhibition of 120 paintings at International House, Berkeley, which was donated to the University of California for the fund to help out students affected by the war. Gave farewell talk and demonstration among friends and organized committee--Mrs. Bellquist, Mrs. Harry Kingman, and Mrs. Doris Heinz and others. They sold the paintings and made about $700 for the Fund.
1942-(April 19 to May 5) exhibited Sumi painting on silk at U.C. Art Gallery. Title "Struggle" which depicts gigantic sequoia tree under a terrific snow storm. Participated in by all art instructors of U.C. Art Department. 
1942-(April 30) Evacuated to Tanforan Assembly Center, San Bruno, California
X1942-(May 3) started movement to organize an Art School in Tanforan.
1942-(May 19) Started registration of students.
X1942-(May 25) School officially opened under the Education Department--Frank Kilpatrick, Director; Chiura Obata appointed as Director of Tanforan Art School. When moved to Topaz, Utah, students at Tanforan numbered over 650, age 6 to over 70 years.

Fine Arts - Figure drawing, landscape, still life, freehand brush work, art anatomy, sculpturing, mural painting, lectures on appreciation of art.
Commercial Art - Fashion design, interior decoration, cartoon, mechan-ical drawing, architectural drafting, commercial lettering and poster layouts.
Techniques - Charcoal, pencil, water color, oil, crayon, pen and ink, pastel, tempera, black and white (sumi). 
Instructors - Chiura Obata, Mine Okubo, Tom Yamamoto, Masao Yabuki, Miyo Ichiyasu, Matsusaburo Hibi, Takashi Tsuzuki, Teruo Iyama, Mary Ogura, Kathryn Kawamorita, George Shimotori, Terui Nagai, Bennie Nobori, Siberius Saite, Itsuko Yoshiwara, Kimio Obata, Shinji Yamaoto. 
1942-(June 27-July 7) Exhibition at Mills College--students work of Tanforan Art School; 87 paintings. 
1942-(July 10) Exhibited the same paintings at International House, Berkeley.
1942-(July 11-14) Sponsored Art and Hobby Show together with the Recreation Dept.
