SUN-TELEGRAPH JUNE 11, 1939 Chinese Aviatrix To Visit Here Miss Ya-Ching Lee, China's outstanding aviatrix, will be greeted by civic and aviation leaders Thursday when she arrives here by plane for three days in b e half of China's civilian relief fund. [[Image]] Miss Lee Louise Thaden Frances Allen, Theresa James and Leona O'Shea, flying in three-plane formation of welcome, will meet Miss Lee on the outskirts of the city and escort her into Allegheny County Airport, where she will be met by Col. Harry C. Frey, Jr., of Pittsburgh, one of the two highest ranking commissioned officers in the United States Army Air Corps. Miss Lee, whose visit here is being sponsored by the Committee for Boycott Against Japanese Aggression, will be guest of honor at the Aero Club luncheon next Sunday in Hotel Henry. NEW YORK CLIPPING FROM BALTIMORE AMERICAN JUN 11 1939 Two Girl Fliers, Bishop Due At 'Rice For China' Party Two celebrated Chinese women aviators and the presiding bishop of the diocese of Nanking will come to Baltimore next Sunday to attend Baltimore's "Rice for China" party Monday night in the Alcazar. There are Miss Ya-Ching Lee and Miss Hila Yen, skilled pilots, and His Excellency, Bishop Paul Yu-Pin, Vicar Apostolic of Nanking, who are touring the United States in the interests of Chinese war sufferers. The party in the Alcazar is being sponsored by a large committee of business men and women known as the "Humaninty Legion." and headed by Jack A. Clarke, as general chairman. Mr. Clarke is assisted by Dr. C. M. Chen and Capt. Richard C. O'Connell. The program will feature Chinese music by an Oriental orchestra. also ancient Chinese instruments, and paintings in person by Prof. Tchang-Shing Tze, celebrated Chinese artist. Professor Tchang-Shing will demonstrate his technique by painting a tiger's head on a large background before the audience. The two women pilots will arrive at Logan Field Sunday afternoon, while the Bishop will come to Baltimore by train from Washington later in the day. LUCE'S PRESS CLIPPING BUREAU NEW YORK, N.Y. CLIPPING FROM CINCINNATI (O.) ENQUIRER JUNE 12, 1939 Miss Ya Ching Lee, Chinese aviatrix and only Chinese member of the Caterpillar Club, will be heard in an interview through WSAI at 10 o'clock this morning. Currently touring the United States to make an appeal for victims of the Sino-Japanese War, she is scheduled to speak in Cincinnati tonight. Miss Yee [[Lee]] is the first Chinese woman to receive permission to give public aviation demonstrations. She won membership in the Caterpillar Club, composed of fliers who have made emergency parachute landings, when she was thrown from a stunt plane above San Francisco Bay in 1935. She is the author of a boon on the history of aviation in China.
