cleared, and the time-table was back to normal.
There was another day when a sports meeting was held up our road. It was quite an event in the neighbourhood and had been well advertised, so that many people were present.
I saw some of the youths and girls on their way to the ground. One of the events was the long jump -- and while many in the crowd were gathered round the competitors a flying bomb came over and fell dead in the middles of that group. Nine were killed, 60 wounded.
My children's schools carried on. At my daughter's school they were holding the annual schools certificate examination to which entrants some from a wide area. It was held in bricked-up shelters, with the crump of exploding bombs forming an undertone to the scratching of pens.
This school broke up for the holidays a week earlier than usual. That was a good thing, for less than a week afterwards it was heavily blasted.
My son's school, which takes boys up to about 13, ended the summer term, as usual, with the annual sports. This even coincided with one of the heaviest days of bombing of the whole period -- but they went through with it.
When the Alert went -- and it was going on and off all the afternoon -- the boys were gathered on a grass plateau near the school house, so as to be near the shelters, while the particular event in progress went on as usual. If a bomb was heard ap-

proaching, the boys were hurried into the shelter. After the explosion they came out again and the sports continued.
The setting was traditionally English. The red, graceful school (with a conservatory, however, smashed in the blitz and never repaired) : the white-clad figures of active boys; the close-mown grass; the immemorial elms. They were all there -- and they refused to be disturbed by the vicious, spluttering intruder from Hitler's Hell.
Well -- this is my bomb story. There is nothing exceptional or unusual about it. I share it with 8,000,000 other Londoners. That is why I have told it. -- "Daily Mail".

Fishermen Entitled to Pensions
Paid members of crews of commercial, fishing, or touring vessels are covered by Pensions Law 11,612, according to judgement given by the Supreme Court in connection with a claim presented by Sr. Enrique J. Poccard for return of payments made to the Merchant Marine Pensions Fund covering four per cent.
The Court sustained that article 2, insert (a) of Law 11,612 covers all paid personnel of commercial fishing or touring craft.--(A.P.)
