the action of Supt of the Bureau said cases being out of either Hamilton or Marion County and nearer to me then any other Supt of the Bureau. Shal I act on them such cases are of daily occurance. I have several such cases on hand now.

7th What shal be done in cases of illegitimate children where the father of the children was the wealthy owner of the mother of the children.

8th Shall I publish in this city newspaper any Orders received by me from you.  The people here are generaly ignorant of all orders of the Bureau relating to the black people.

9th  The clerk you gave Capt. Lucus permission to hire is still with me he has had no pay for his servises with Capt. Lucus.  Shal I pay him out of the money coming from rents of property belonging to this office. I have also one other good clerk. in order to do the business of the Office in a proper manner. but the receipts of this office besides the rent-money will not pay two good clerks saying nothing about my pay. The blacks are very poor here & have no money to pay fines of fees. Since I have been here my office has been open evry evening until 7" oclock & some of the time until 10 oclock with two clerks & yet cannot get up with the business now on hand. If I am allowed to keep two clerke I hope to be able to keep up with my work. I found a large amount of work lying in the office unattended to when I came here.
