The Association was first conceived and unofficially organized in 1930. Its first organization plans and a meager number of temporary by-laws were officially established and ratified at the first official organization meeting of ALPA held on July 27, 1931, at the Morrison Hotel in Chicago. It was attended by some less than twenty pilot leaders from all of the then existing air lines. This first official ALPA meeting was presided over by Dave Behncke, and it was also at this meeting that he was elected as ALPA's first president on a temporary status. The Air Line Pilots Association was not chartered with the American Federation of Labor until August 10, 1931. He was soon ably supported and assisted by the following veteran air line pilots whose names appear on the formal copy of ALPA's AF of L Int'l charter. They are J. S. PRICER, AA; J.H. BURNS, AA; B.S. WARNER, AA; H.F. COLE,
