Section 2101 - Fuel and Load Computation (Continued)

Carriage of Cargo in Passenger Compartments

The C.A.A. has issued requirements effective August 15, 1944 which limits the carriage of cargo in the unoccupied seats of the passenger compartments to air mail in standard mail pouches and cargo contained in pouches similar to standard mail pouches, only after the following conditions have been complied with. 

(1) Cargo is adequately secured either by the safety belt or other means which are satisfactory to prevent shifting during turbulent air conditions and ground operation of the aircraft, and 
(2) Cargo carried in any one seat does not exceed the weight of 170 pounds, and 
(3) Cargo"does not consist of a concentrated mass, such as would impose abnormally concentrated loads on the seat and/or floor structure, and 
(4) Cargo is carried in unoccupied seats directly forward of all seated passengers, and
(5) Cargo is not placed in any seat by which an emergency exit is located.
