Section 3041 TAKE-OFF

B. CLIMB OUT OF THE FIELD

1. Under normal conditions allow the airspeed to pick up to 100 MPH for climbing out of the field, then increasing the speed to 120 MPH for climb.

2. The landing gear should be re retracted as soon as the plane reached a point beyond which a safe landing cannot be made in the field or any level space available for landing beyond the field should it become necessary to land at once.

The orders for this operation, given verbally, should be:

CAPTAIN: "UP GEAR" (Do not use hand signals!)

FIRST OFFICER: Raise gear. Pull latch lever full back. Pull landing gear lever out and up. As soon as gear is fully retracted return control valve to neutral position. Report "GEAR UP". If anything is wrong inform Captain. Latch lever shall remain in mechanical lock position parallel to floor until "UP GEAR" command is given by Flight Officer making take-off.

C. INTERMEDIATE CLIMB

1. As soon as the ship is airborne and airspeed of 120 MPH is reached, the power should be set for climb. The Captain may, at his discretion, have the First Officer take over the throttles by so indicating orally and calling for the following power reduction steps.

2. Reduce manifold pressure to 35" Hg. when airspeed of 120 MPH has been attained.

3. Reduce engine speed to 2100 RPM.

4. Reduce manifold pressure to 30" Hg. when altitude of 500 feet has been attained.

5. Reduce engine speed to 1900 RPM.

R-1830-92

Reduce manifold pressure to 35" Hg. when airspeed of 120 MPH has been attained.

Reduce engine speed to 2450 RPM.

Reduce manifold pressure to 31" Hg" Hg. when altitude of 500 ft. has been attained. Turn electric fuel booster pumps "off" at 500 feet.

Reduce engine speed to 2050 RPM.
