FLIGHT

Section 3241 - Orientation: Fadeout Parallel System (Cont'd.)

9. The beam is then bracketed in the usual manner and flight continued into the Station, checking for buildup for volume.

10. There are two other variations of this system which can be utilized that will sometimes provide a faster solution because the identity of the beam is established before it is actually intercepted. One of these methods involves open quadrant flying and b are subject to errors resulting from extreme to moderate drift. They require fairly accurate knowledge of existing winds in the area as well as very strict interpretation of signal changes versus volume changes. The method given in detail above is the basic Parallel System and the safest of the three parallel methods. Variations of this system are given in the Link Trainer where they can be more readily observed by pilots.

11. Do not use the loop antenna for instrument approaches except in emergencies as adequate cone of silence or surge characteristics cannot be obtained on this antenna. Standard beacon antenna should be used when in the immediate vicinity of the Station.
