HOWEVER, That in the case of any pilot who dies before January 1, 1951, the "average monthly remuneration" shall be the average calculated in accordance with this paragraph, or the monthly compensation, not in excess of $750, applicable in accordance with section 2 (c) to service prior to January 1, 1948, whichever is the larger.

8. The term "insurance amount" shall mean the sum of (A) forty per centum of his average monthly remuneration, up to and including $50; plus (B) ten per centum of such average monthly remuneration exceeding $50, plus (C) one percentum of the sum of (A) plus (B), multiplied by the number of years after 1947 in each of which compensation paid to him will have been equal to $750 or more.

EMPLOYERS' PENSION SYSTEMS

SECTION 5.

Nothing in this Act shall be taken as restricting or discouraging payment by employers to retired pilots or their survivors of annuities, pensions, gratuities, or lump sums in addition to the annuities and lump sums paid under this Act, nor shall such Act be taken as terminating any trust heretofore created or insurance or reinsurance arrangement heretofore entered into for the payment of such annuities, pensions, gratuities or lump sums.
