AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION
International

August 30, 1948

TO ALL ALPA MEMBERS

Dear Member:

At the 9th Convention, a resolution was passed directing Head-quarters to set up an ALPA Credit Union and Mutual Aid Plan. The Credit Union has been established and is operating. It is titled "Air Line Pilots Association Federal Credit Union." The Mutual Aid Plan is being worked on and the completed plans will be presented to the 10th Convention in November.

Many ALPA members know about Credit Unions for some of the airlines have company-sponsored credit union establishments of this character. For the benefit of our members who do not know about the purposes of a Credit Union, it is a cooperative thrift and loan organization set up under state or federal laws for the benefit of a group of people having a common bond of interest and is similar to a savings bank.

Now that the ALPA Federal Credit Union is established and functioning, it gives every ALPA member in good standing a place to deposit savings and a convenient, confidential, and low-cost source of borrowing money. It is to the advantage of every ALPA member in good standing to join this organization now. early every Local Council has a Credit Union Representative who is supplied with membership forms and other participation instructions and will be glad to assist you in Credit Union business and, as a further convenience to you, we have enclosed with this letter a membership form and leaflet welcoming you to join ALPAFCU.

To take advantage of this organization requires only that you fill in the membership card and pay 25[cents] as the membership fee and deposit at least $5.00 in your account. You can then deposit your savings in your account in the future and have available for your future use money which, in the meantime, is earning dividends for you.

Before you may borrow from the Credit Union, you must have at least $5.00 (one share) on deposit and have been approved as a member by the Board of Directors of ALPAFCU.

If every ALPA member will do this now, it will give us a substantial sum to make available to Credit Union members for loans and, if you suddenly find the necessity to borrow yourself, you will already be approved as a member and can obtain quick confidential service on your loan.

Some of you may say that you already have Credit Union service available to you through your company. This may be true but here are a few angles about a company-sponsored Credit Union with which we feel every ALPA member should be acquainted. National Airlines Inc. has a Credit Union. When the strike occurred on National its pilots found they needed their Credit Union very much. What happened? It wasn't available to them. Not only that, the company immediately took the loans to court for immediate collection and have been raising all forms of trouble actually using the Credit Union to pressurize their pilots and embarrass them financially.

The ALPA Federal Credit Union will have none of these ills and is a straight, out and out air line pilot's proposition, controlled and
