COLONIAL AIRLINES, INC.

March 1, 1949

TO: All Pilots
FROM: G. R. Janas
SUBJECT: Summary of Notices on Bulletin Board February 10 to 21, 1949

2-11-49 G.R. Janas
Streptomycin

There is quoted below for your information a bulletin which was recently received by this office:
"Attention of all pilots is directed to the fact that a biologic agent used in the medical treatment of a number of infections, and known as Streptomycin, occasionally leaves disturbances of vision and balance in those who have received treatment by this means. As these after-effects may be prolonged, sometimes lasting many weeks, all pilots are advised that the use of Streptomycin creates a potential hazard to the safe conduct of the duties and privileges of their license, and it is conceivable that its use may involve a lowering of their physical category."
It is pertinent to point out that sulfa drugs also have after-effects which would reduce pilot proficiency.

2-14-49 G.R. Janas
Arlington Airport, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The manager of the above airport suggested that we call the attention of our pilots to the existence of this airport, which is just east of the town of Poughkeepsie, and about five miles north of the New Hackensack airport. He stated that while his operations are limited during the winter months, his operations will increase very soon since he is starting a commercial school and has requested that our flights alter their courses slightly to overcome the danger of flying through the traffic pattern.
