Mr. Michael A. Gitt
188-40B 71st Crescent
Flushing, New York

Dear Mr. Gitt:

Thank you very much for you letter of December 12 to which was attached a copy of a letter to Captain Murray, the statement from Colonial Airlines to the Postmaster General, and a number of other outstanding citizens, and a copy of the Canadian Air Transport Board Order No. 530.

I have been working on this situation intermittently ever since it came up. It's a rather peculiar problem and one that is difficult to get ahold of. It appears to be one of those things where each has a pretty definite hold on the other and one says, "I'll let go, if you will." I think at least it will bring to a show down many things that have been seething in the background for some time. It's a matter in which some pretty wise cards are going to have to be played and, whether or not the Old Man has them, is a question that remains to be seen.

I think the action of Colonial should be to stand on the proposition that they have been hurt, and bring pressure to bear on our own government and let the horse-trading be done higher up. In any event, it's an interesting situation and it will be still more interesting to see how it works out.

I expect to see Janas before the end of the year or shortly thereafter to discuss this and a number of other problems. Shortly after that, I will have a better idea of which way the wind is blowing.

Respecting your letter to Murray, this is right on the beam. don't know what this guy is stewing around about. He doesn't seem to have much of anything to hang his hat on except that he did some bidding and now he's got to live with it. In any event, I have watched the case very closely and I have asked him if he has anything to suggest, which is in line with the agreement, that can be done that has not been considered. To
