Dear Mike:

Pursuant to your request, I discussed the matter of your CAA violation, together with the policy followed by the Air Lines, with other members of the legal department. It seems the position which the Company takes in matters of this kind, almost without exception, is to defend the pilot in every respect. This is true, not as a result of any altruistic feeling on the part of the Company, rather, because of the fact that if the violation is proved against the pilot, the Company thereby becomes subject to penalties which are far greater than those to which the pilot may be subject. I am further informed that cases in which the Company has not defended the pilot to the fullest extent are rare.

Hoping that the above answers your inquiry, and assuring you of my continuing cooperation in your behalf, I am,

Very truly yours,

AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION
