On May 29th we received a bid from Captain Gitt addressed to the Chief Pilot for this vacancy.
On June 3rd Captain Uttenweiler bid for this vacancy and his bid was addressed to the Chief Pilot.
On June 4th Captain Murray bid for this vacancy.
On June 6th the bid was closed and on June 6th notice was issued to the effect that Captain Murray was the successful bidder for that vacancy. Other pilots bid but we only mention pilots senior to Captain Gitt.
On June 11th Captain Gitt filed grievance.

Cooper: Tell in your own words what you said in respect to this bid on June 1st to Captain Gitt.

OFF THE RECORD

Cooper: You were asked the question can you tell what was said in your conversation with Captain Gitt, June 1st.

Janas: I believe that I asked Captain Gitt why he had bid on the Bermuda run. Reply unknown. I explained to him that the possibilities were that he might have to go to Syracuse if he desired to remain a regular captain in the fall and asked him if he realized that and his answer was yes. Then I discussed the extension of the bid, explaining that the domestic bid was to close on June 6th, 0900 and that Captain Murray had appeared to be indecisive as to whether he intended to bid on the Bermuda run as to the aspect of his moving to Syracuse. I explained that to enable Captain Murray to be in possession of all of the facts and in view of the fact that we did not have to close the bid May 30th we had extended that if no Captain holding a run, bid the domestic vacancy, then Captain Murray would be assured that he would not have to go to Syracuse.

Cooper: Did Captain Gitt object?

Janas: Not at this time.
