October 6, 1948

Mr. Michael A. Gitt
148-25 Bayside Ave.
Flushing, L.I., N.Y.

Dear Mr. Gitt:

I have your letter of September 16, 1948, in which you propose certain questions as to the propriety of your holding ALPA offices while on check pilot status with the company. As you of course know, the ALPA By-Laws do state that a check pilot can be an active member in the Association, but they also further state that he shall not hold any elective office in the Association during that time.

There have been exceptions to this in the past, but these exceptions have been approved by the Convention or Executive Board or some other governing body.

After carefully considering this matter, Mike, I think the best thing to do in order to avoid any criticism at any later date is to place it on the agenda of the Convention next month, and I am confident it should be a comparatively simple matter for them to understand and bring in a resolution approving your dual activities, so to speak. In any even, I presume you will be at the Convention so that if the committee desires to ask you any questions they may do so.

If you have any further thoughts on this matter, please let me know.

With best personal regards, I am

Sincerely yours,

AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION
