Salute to the Pioneers

Since the first flight, the men at the controls have truly been the pioneers of the last great frontier. By men such as these, selected at random from ALPA's files, the air lines were spread across the face of the globe to become a way of life. They pioneered new routes, new equipment, new techniques, new ideas. They were men on the move in a world on the move. As fledgling industry became great and then even greater, they were there behind the scenes of every advancement, contributing their vast reservoir of skill, know-how and experience. Many of the earlier pilots have taken their last flight west. Others have gone on to become leaders in the industry. Some are still flying. It is impossible to list the countless thousands who have pioneered the air age, for every man who ever flew is, in reality, a pioneer. Therefore, though this representative handful, we salute them all on this, the 50th Anniversary of Powered Flight.
